When we buy our children toys, let’s buy them farm play sets: Tractors; planters, windmills and farm animals. Playing is the best way to learn.
We can never make farming fashionable unless we create a culture that honours farming for children. When children are exposed to the music industry, they aspire to become musicians and dancers. When they are exposed to sport; they all wanna be Lionel Messi, Serena Williams, or Siya Kolisi.
Children, at various levels of growth, should develop a passion for farming. If we allow children to play with farm toys or play around the farm they learn responsibility at a young age.
Looking at South Africa today, we have a generation of farmers, black and white, who against all odds, are giving their all to contribute in our country’s nation-building efforts and food security.
This is the time to teach young ones to appreciate farming and develop a deep love of the land. Every African child must develop an appreciation for the land and a connection to nature.
This is the time to raise future farmers.
Let the children play.
Let the children learn.
Farming is their future.
